IPL 2025: Before the start of the eighteenth season of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals shocked everybody by naming former Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper, Faf du Plessis as the vic-captain. The former Proteas international will now be Axar Patel's deputy during IPL 2025. Delhi Capitals fans had expected KL Rahul to lead the team during the eighteenth season of the IPL, but the franchise shocked everybody and appointed Axar as the skipper.

Delhi Capitals who have been a part of the Indian Premier League since 2008 are yet to win their maiden title. Delhi Capitals open their IPL campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 24, 2025. The Capitals procured the services of KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

KL Rahul has been criticized for his lackluster batting in the past. Rahul who led the Lucknow Super Giants last years was called out on multiple occasions due to his slow batting. Ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Lucknow Super Giants parted ways with KL Rahul which allowed him to move to Delhi Capitals. The Capitals who were in a dire need of a captain were expected to appoint Rahul as their go to person. Rahul being snubbed as the captain and the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals didn't go down to well with his fans and the well-wishers of the franchise.

Rahul is all set to represent the Delhu Capitals now. So far Rahul has faced 3479 deliveries so far and has scored a total of 4683 runs. 

He has scored these runs with a strike rate bof 134.61 and at an average of 45.47.
