No. 1 Ranked Shubman Gill Overtakes Steve Smith & Glenn Phillips To Become ICC's Player Of The Month For February

The No. 1 ranked ODI batter, Shubman Gill, has been honoured as the ICC's Player Of The Month for February 2025, overtaking Smith & Phillips to get the honour.

Number one-ranked ODI batter Shubman Gill has been elected as the ICC's Player of February after his exceptional outings against England in the white-ball series as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian opener was selected over New Zealand's Glenn Phillips and Australia's Steve Smith. Gill has been delivering delightful Innings for Team India and has been doing what a vice-captain does best. Shubman stood up to the task, and the International Cricket Council has recognized his outstanding efforts.

Shubman Gill Announced As The New ICC POTM For February 2025 

Shubman Gill has been in golden form since the lead-up to the ICC Champions Trophy. Throughout February, Gill has raked up 406 runs with a strike rate of 94.19, averaging 101.50. The Indian opener was clinical against England in the ODI bilaterals as he scored 87 runs in the Nagpur ODI, followed by a composed 60 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. He capped off the series in the finest way possible in Ahmedabad with a 102-ball 112, which included 14 fours and three sixes. His strong performance continued in the ICC Champions Trophy, where Team India emerged as the champions over New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

Gill expressed his delight after becoming the ICC Player of the Month for February and said that such honours give him the motivation to perform harder and win matches for the country.  

“I am elated to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February. Nothing gives me more motivation than performing with the bat and winning matches for my country. The lead-up to the Champions Trophy 2025 was very crucial and I am glad I was able to make the most out of it. It has been a phenomenal start to the year individually as well as for us as a unit. I am looking forward to an action-packed cricketing year ahead and hope to win many more matches for India,” Shubman Gill said in a media release.

This is Gill's third Player Of The Match honour, having won twice before in January and September 2023.

Gill To Now Feature In The IPL 2025 Season

After Shubman Gill & Team India's golden run in the Champions Trophy, the Indian opener will now be in action as a skipper. Gill be leading the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming IPL 2025 season, and the one-time IPL champions will be seen in action at home on March 25, 2025, where they will be facing the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings.
