It was yet another thrilling evening in the ODI World Cup 2023 as Australia defeated New Zealand by five runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. A total of 771 runs were scored during the Australia vs New Zealand CWC 2023 match and a lot of records were shattered. This was Australia's fourth consecutive win in the tournament and have kept themselves stagnant in the fourth position on the ODI World Cup 2023 points table.

Australia win edge of a seat contest in Dharamsala 

Batting first in Dharamsala, the Aussies went off to a flyer as openers David Warner and Travis Head added 175 runs for the first wicket. Warner missed out on a hundred and played a cracking knock of 81 runs off 65 balls, which consisted of five fours and six sixes. On the other end, Head slammed a century on his return to the Australian team and scored 109 from 67 balls. However, the Kiwis fought back after removing Travis Head and picked up wickets in quick succession. The Aussies at last were wrapped up for 388 runs by New Zealand. Kiwi spinner Glenn Phillips picked up 3 wickets for 33 runs whereas Trent Boult also ended the innings with a three-wicket haul.

Chasing the target, the Kiwis also started well with opening batsmen Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra adding 61 runs in 7.1 overs. Despite chasing 389 runs, the Kiwi team continued to play attacking shots throughout the innings and tried to chase down the target. Opener Rachin Ravindra secured his second ODI World Cup 2023 ton and played an innings of 116 runs off 89 balls. The Kiwis needed 19 runs to win off the last over and Jimmy Neesham tried his best to take the team over the line and played a knock-of 58 runs off 39 balls. At last, Australia won the match by 5 runs as New Zealand were only able to score 383/9.
