Pakistan's Accountability In Crisis! Policemen 'Refuse' Duties During Champions Trophy 2025, Over 100 Staffers Dismissed

Champions Trophy 2025: An enormous security lapse in Pakistan has come to light during the Champions Trophy as it has been revealed that several policemen who were assigned duties during the ongoing ICC tournament were either absent or refused to serve their assignments. As a result, the ones who did not serve have been let go, with over 100 policemen of Pakistan Punjab Police getting laid off from service.

Over 100 Policemen Sacked For Neglecting Champions Trophy Duties In Pakistan

Pakistan's accountability as hosts for events in the future has come under scrutiny after their preparations for the Champions Trophy have come under fire. Several security lapses have been flagged all over social media, which showed fans jumping into the stadium during the Tri-Nation series and a fan jumping the barricade and invading the pitch. After the lapses came to light, it was revealed that Pakistan's Punjab Police had taken strict action after several policemen refused to serve their duties during Champions Trophy matches.

"The police officials were assigned to provide security for teams travelling between Qaddafi Stadium Lahore and designated hotels but either remained absent or outright refused to take up their responsibilities," an official from Pakistan's Punjab Police said, as quoted by PTI.

The IGP Punjab, Usman Anwar, has considered matters, and he has ordered a probe against the cops who are under the radar. The official went on to say, "There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of international events."

Why Did The Pakistani Policemen Fail To Fulfill Their Duties?

The dismissal of over 100 police staffers who belonged to various groups of the police force has raised eyes over the rise of an unusual situation in Pakistan. While there is no response on why the dismissed police personnel did not fulfil their assigned tasks during the Champions Trophy, local media outlets claimed that the ones who were let go felt overworked due to the increased duty hours.

Pakistan fans' hopes were dashed when the Mohammad Rizwan-led side was thrashed twice by New Zealand, first in the Tri-Series Nation Summit Clash and then in the Champions Trophy group stage. Team India added salt to the wound by handing them a crushing defeat, effectively eliminating them from CT25. It is yet to be seen on whether any action would be taken after their disastrous run in the ICC tournament.
