After failing to attract any bids in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction, England cricketer Phil Salt has swiftly ascended to the second position in the ICC T20I batting rankings. The England opener's remarkable performances in the T20I series between West Indies and England resulted in a significant boost in his rankings.

Phil Salt's rapid rise in international cricket

Phil Salt's outstanding scores of 119 and 38 in Trinidad propelled him up by 18 places, reaching a career-best rating of 802. This places him 15 rating points ahead of Mohammad Rizwan from Pakistan, who currently occupies the third position in the ICC rankings. Despite this impressive climb, there remains a considerable gap between Phil Salt and Suryakumar Yadav, who comfortably holds the top position with a rating of 887.

Phil Salt was part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, in which he performed well with the bat. He was bought by the franchise for a sum of Rs. 2 crore. The wicketkeeper-batsman played a total of 9 matches and scored 218 runs. However, Delhi Capitals released Salt into the pool ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Salt failed to attract any bid at the auction and went unsold.
