IPL 2025: It was not a memorable evening for Rishabh Pant and his Lucknow Super Giants team as they lost their season 2025 opener against Delhi Capitals on Monday after being in a dominant position for most of the match. Capitals won the game by a wicket, thanks to Ashutosh Sharma's heroics with the bat.
Ashutosh hit a breathtaking 66* off 31 balls to take DC over the line. But it was not his knock that stole the show, instead it was Pant's post-match interview that is making all the noise. Pant, while praising the partnership between Ashutosh and Vipraj Nigam, he forgot the name of the latter and referred to him as ‘the other guy’.
"We got early wickets, but we knew it was a good wicket to bat on. We had to keep doing the basics right more often than not. I think they had a couple of good partnerships. One with Stubbs, with Ashutosh and one with one other guy (Vipraj Nigam.) I think he (Nigam) did a pretty good job and took the game away from us. There was enough for the bowlers, but I think we could have done the basics right. We felt the pressure, we are still settling in, but a lots of positives to take from this match," Pant said.
Vipraj came into bat when the Capitals were looking down the barrel at 113/6 in 12.3 overs, still needing 97 runs off just 45 balls, Vipraj smashed 39 off 15 balls to change the momentum in DC's favour. His knock wa laced with five boundaries and two sixes as well. Vipraj bowled two overs as well. He was expensive conceding 35 runs, but he also picked up a wicket.
