'Got A Lot Of Help': Rohit Sharma Credits His 'Three Pillars' For India's T20 World Cup Win

Rohit Sharma is know a World Cup winning captain, an accomplishment that eluded him for two years across three ICC events. On June 29, 2024, India scripted history at Barbados after they defeated South Africa in the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The 'Men in Blue' defeated the Aiden Markram-led Proteas side by seven runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. Sharma is now the only cricketer to win the World T20 both as a skipper and as a player of the side.
Rohit Sharma Shares His Biggest Dream
Soon after Rohit Rohit led India to their second T20 World Cup win, he called time on his T20 International career. Rohit is also the first and only cricketer to play all the nine editions of the T20 World Cup. Recently, in an award function where Rohit was awarded as the Men's International Cricketer of the Year, he spoke at length about what his goal was.
Rohit also said that it was his dream to transform the Indian Cricket Team and he took a lot of pride in what that bunch achieved. Sharma also credited the three pillars who he thinks were crucial in Team India's world conquering feat.

'I think, it was my biggest dream to transform this team and not worry too much about stats and results and also to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much. This is what was required. I got a lot of help, to be honest my three pillars who are actually Mr. Jay Shah, Mr. Rahul Dravid and the Chairman of Selectors, Mr. Ajit Agarkar. It was very critical for me to do what I did and obviously not to forget the players who came in different point in time and helped the team achieve what we achieve.', said Rohit.

Rohit's Toughest 'Down Under' Test
India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series later this year. These Test matches are a part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a title that India haven't lost since 2016. This is the first time when Rohit Sharma will travel to Australia as India's full-time Test skipper and will look to retain the BGT glory.
