Rohit Sharma Gives A Jaw-Dropping Update On Mohammad Shami's Injury Ahead Of IND vs NZ Test Series
Mohammad Shami who played his last international game for India in November 2023 is at the National Cricket Academy for his rehabilitation process
IND vs NZ Test series: Rohit Sharma and Co. will host New Zealand in a three-match Test series that starts on October 16, 2024. These Test matches will be crucial to India's chances of playing the World Test Championship Final which will take place in 2025. India are currently at the top of the WTC 2025 points table and look firm favourites to play the finals. Team India need three wins to book a berth in the WTC Finals and they'll look to do it before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit Sharma Opens Up On Mohammad Shami's Comeback
There has been an air of confusion about Shami's injury and his recovery. His last appearance for India came in the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup which India lost against the Aussies.
Shami was due for a Test comeback during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but as of now it looks as if he is running against the clock to regain full fitness. Ahead of the IND vs NZ series, Rohit Sharma was particularly asked about Shami's status to which he had a very clear response.
'It's difficult to make a call on Mohammad Shami for the Australia series. He had a swelling in his knees. That put him back a little bit and had to start again. He's at the NCA, we don't want to bring undercooked Shami to Australia, but fingers crossed', said Rohit.
Team India Prepare For Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India are to tour Australia later this year for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India have had the upper hand over Australia for quite sometime and have defeated them in consecutive four Test series. Piling up the pain on Australia, India have also defeated them twice 'Down Under', in 2018-19 and 2020-21 respectively.
Now, challenging Australia in Australia is no small deal. This is a new look Australian side against a relatively experienced Indian team, but Rohit and his boys will have to be on the top of their game to beat Australia in their backyard.
