Sanju Samson claims that Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir have asked him to focus on red-ball cricket in the domestic circuit. Samson, who has been in the circuit for nearly two decades is yet to make his Test debut. Claiming that he does not want to just be restricted to playing white-ball cricket, Samson revealed what the leadership management has asked him to play more Ranji games.

‘I believe I have the skillset to succeed in red ball cricket’

"I believe I have the skillset to succeed in red ball cricket and I just don’t want myself to be restricted to just white ball cricket. My desire is to play Test cricket for India. Before the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group had told me that they were considering me for red ball cricket and asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches," Samson said on Sportstar.

"My preparation was good this time around. After the series against Sri Lanka I trained at the RR Academy with Rahul Dravid Sir and Zubin Bharucha and worked on my game. The century in the Duleep Trophy has given me a lot of confidence as it came against some of the best bowlers in the country," he added.

TEAM IND READY FOR KIWI CHALLENGE

After whitewashing Bangladesh 2-0, Team India get ready for their next assignment. The Rohit Sharma -led Indian team host inaugural WTC champions New Zealand for a three-match Test series. The first Test takes place on October 16 in M. Chinnaswamy, Bengaluru. Given their form, India start overwhelming favourites against New Zealand. While the buzz is palpable among fans for this big red-ball series, the problem is that rain is set to play spoilsport as there is a 70 per cent chance of precipitation.
