Shakib al Hasan ban: Michael Vaughan tweets criticised by cricket fans

Bangladesh’s veteran cricketer Shakib al Hasan was banned from all forms of cricket, with a one-year suspension by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday. Shakib accepted three charges against him of breaching the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code. It comes as a big blow for Bangladesh, who will be touring India next week for a three-match T20I series and two-match Test series.

Michael Vaughan roasted by fans on Twitter

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took on Twitter on a day which ironically was his 45th birthday, to tweet about Shakib's ban not being harsh enough. Vaughan is known for his blunt tweets and talks as a cricket pundit. He wrote that there should be no sympathy for the Bangladesh all-rounder, especially in an era in which players get clearly briefed about what they can and what they cannot do and what they are supposed to report straight away. He added that two years isn't enough as a punishment and it should have been longer.

Michael Vaughan was criticised on Twitter for his tweet on the ban. One of the netizens compared this situation to former Australia captain Steve Smith's ban last year. At that time, Vaughan termed Smith's ban as a harsh decision. He shared a picture of Vaughan's tweet last year about Steve Smith's controversy.

One of his followers tweeted that the only uncomfortable thing here is Shakib getting a longer ban not for cheating but for not reporting an approach. This was compared to Steve Smith and David Warner in South Africa last year. The then captain and vice-captain of the Australian team were caught after they were actually caught cheating by allowing the ball to be tampered with.

Vaughan reacted to his fans with a tweet writing that he has zero-tolerance for corruption and it doesn't matter what team the cricketer plays for.
