Former Bangladesh Skipper, Tamim Iqbal has been rushed to hospital after experiencing severe chest pain. Tamim experienced discomfort in his chest while playing a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP-3 ground in Savar. The local media in Bangladesh has described the former Bangladesh skipper's condition to be critical. Iqbal was reportedly put on life support.
Tamim Iqbal was playing a match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club. After Tamim alerted the authorities about his condition, they had planned to airlift him and take him to Dhaka. But Tamim's serious condition forced him to be taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital.
'Tamim went through few initial checks at a local hospital and a mild heart attack was suspected. We had made efforts to transport him to Dhaka, but his conditions worsened and he started experiencing severe chest pain. He had to be taken to the Fazilatunnesa Hospital and the reports later confirmed that it was a massive heart attack', said Dr Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Dr. Chowdhury also added that the former Bangladesh skipper is under observation and the medical team is doing everything for his recovery. Tamim Iqbal, who stepped away frpom international cricket in Janaury has been playing club cricket. Tamim is also seen doing commentary stints after stepping away from the highest level of competitive cricket. In his retirement post, Iqbal clearly mentioned the fact that he had stepped away from Bangladesh Cricket Board's central contract a long time ago and he didn't want his national team to stay confused about his availability.
Tamim Iqbal has played 243 ODIs for Bangladesh and has scored 8357 runs. Tamim who represented Bangladesh for sixteen years averages 36.65 in the ODI format and has scored 56 half-centuries and 14 centuries. Iqbal also has 5134 Test runs to his name.
