Shikhar Dhawan was a feared name in the realm of cricket as he is one of the most fearless batters the country ever produced. The nickname ‘Gabbar’ resonated to his classic attacking instinct. As an opener, he was a terrorizing figure among the bowlers during his time in the national team. His chemistry with Rohit Sharma was one of the finest the Men in Blue ever had and they paired up to become successful openers for the team. The southpaw opener has now called time to his international and domestic cricket career.

Shikhar Dhawan Bids Farewell to Cricket, Announces Retirement From International and Domestic Format

Team India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from International and domestic cricket. The star cricketer made his decision public on Saturday morning over social media. In an emotional video, the India batter expressed gratitude to his family, childhood mentors, DDCA and the BCCI for their overwhelming support throughout the years.

“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” Dhawan captioned the post on 'X'.

"It's important to turn the page to move forward in life and that's why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid goodbye to my cricket journey, I have peace in my heart that I played for so long," Dhawan said in the video.

Shikhar Dhawan played his last ODI for India against Bangladesh in 2022, and his last T20I appearance was in 2021. The batter's Test career ended in 2018. The Indian batter has had some outstanding performances and made significant contributions to the team. Shikhar Dhawan scored 6793 runs for India in 167 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), including 17 tons and 35 half-centuries. The southpaw opener has scored 8499 runs in 122 first-class matches and 9797 runs in T20 Internationals.

In the IPL, the star-batter has been a part of various franchises, like the Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and the Deccan Chargers.
