The young guns of Team India are currently busy taking on Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series. This is the post Virat-Rohit for the Indian Team in T20Is and they now need to carry the baton of the team forward. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their T20I retirements after India won their second World T20 Championship and they have left the team in a better place. Kohli while announcing his retirement showed a lot of faith in the youngsters of the team and now it is time for them to step up.
2024 has been a year that has challenged Ruturaj Gaikwad in many ways. The youngster who has just started to find his footing in the international cricket arena has big shoes to fill in, the void left by MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Earlier this year, Gaikwad was announced as the skipper of Chennai Super Kings after MS Dhoni stepped down.
Ruturaj has now been bestowed with the duties to bat at number 3, a position that Kohli held on for a very long time for the Indian team. Before the IND vs ZIM 3rd T20I, Gaikwad was asked about his new batting position in the new-look Indian outfit and about his comparisons with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Gaikwad while answering the pressers at the pre-match press conference had a very simple answer.

It is actually a huge topic, and it isn't the right point to think about it, compare with him or even try to fill his shoes because it is relatively very tough and hard. As I said during the IPL as well, it is difficult to fill Mahi bhai's shoes. You want to start your own career, play your own game and that is the priority right now.

Team India after enduring a shocking defeat in the first T20I, registered a stunning comeback in the following match as they defeated the home team by 100 runs. The series now hangs in balance with both the teams winning one match each and all eyes are now on the 3rd T20I.
