ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Team India, led by Rohit Sharma , has been unstoppable in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. With four wins (3 group stage, semi-final), India has now made it to the summit clash of yet another ICC event and now as they get ready to take on the New Zealand challenge, former India legend Sunil Gavaskar seems unimpressed.

Gavaskar reckoned India openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, have not performed to their potential and that is a concern. Pointing out that they lasted for more than five overs in only one game, Gavaskar claimed there is a shortcoming there.

'There's a shortcoming'

“They haven't (played to their maximum potential) because when you look at the openers, they haven't really given the Indian team the kind of start that they had hoped for. That has not happened. So, clearly, I think there's a shortcoming over there,” said Gavaskar to a media outlet ahead of the summit clash.

“Even with the new ball, you might want to take wicket in the first 10 overs. You definitely want to take about 2 or 3 wickets. That's also not quite been happening,” he added.

Team India's Mission Dubai

Rohit has led the side brilliantly to make the final without losing a single game. India won all it's three group stage games against Bangladesh , Pakistan and New Zealand.

Then they went on to beat the ever-so-dangerous Australia in the semi-final. Rohit, with the bat, has got India off to good starts inside the powerplay. He (Rohit) would again be a crucial player for India in the final.

Also, Gill would like to contribute in a big way in a world final. He has been in good form, but somehow the scores has not depicted the real picture about him.
