The Pakistan Cricket Board attracted another controversy with their decision to reduce match fees for the upcoming National T20 Championship. Following severe backlash, the PCB has now decided to increase the match fees as per a PTI report.
A 75% slash meant players would be getting match fees of PKR 10,000 while the reserves would be pocketing PKR 5000. In the last edition, players were paid PKR 40,000 as match fees. The PCB has now reviewed their decision and has increased the players' match fees to PKR 40000 while the reserves would take home PKR 20,000.
Pakistan's domestic cricket has been the subject of scrutiny, and things further got magnified after the PCB stopped the National Under-19 Championship after just one day citing various age-related issues and selection problems. The National Junior Event has also not been conducted this season, while there have also been reports of the board taking various methods to strip players of basic facilities in a bid to cut down the expenditures.
Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has opted not to take part in the National T20 Championship. Babar, who was dropped from the T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand series, decided to give a preference to the Pakistan Super League. He hasn't been involved in a domestic T20 match since 2020 and will focus more on PSL in order to get back to the Pakistan T20 setup.
The Men In Green encountered a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign. The Men In Blue went on to lift their third Champions Trophy title after defeating the Kiwis by four wickets in the final in Dubai.
