'Why Not Have A Foreign Chairman': PCB Slammed For Pakistan's Lacklustre Approach In Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan have endured a dismal campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025. An early exit from the Champions Trophy didn't help their cause as they became the first team in 23 years to get knocked out of the tournament without a single win.

The Mohammed Rizwan-led side lost to New Zealand by 60 runs in the tournament opener, followed by a humiliating six-wicket defeat at the hands of archrival India. Their last group stage match against Bangladesh was washed away due to persistent rain, leaving Pakistan without a single win in the tournament.

Mohammad Hafeez Took A Veil Dig At PCB

There will be severe scrutiny on the Pakistan team's performance as the defending champions couldn't capitalise on their home comfort. Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez took a sharp dig at the Pakistan Cricket Board suggesting the PCB should appoint a foreign chairman.

Speaking on a Pakistani sports channel he said, "For the solution, we have talked about the management, the players. We always say that we need foreign coaches. We think foreign coaches perform the best. Why not have a foreign chairman."

Pakistan Have Endured Disappointing results In ICC Events

Ahead of the Champions Trophy, PCB renovated all the three venues installing new floodlights, seats and other amenities. But despite their efforts, the drainage system of Rawalpindi stadium couldn't stand the persistent rain and except for the pitch and its adjacent area, the entire ground wasn't even covered resulting in a washout. Pakistan's performance in ICC events has been very poor. They couldn't get past the group stage in the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup and have managed just six wins across three ICC competitions. They lost to Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup and also had to concede a humiliating defeat at the hands of minnows USA in the T20 World Cup.

The Men In Green will now travel to New Zealand to take part in a bilateral series which comprises of five T20Is and three ODIs.
