Adam Zampa breaks new record

Adam Zampa currently leads the wicket-taking charts in the ongoing tournament with an impressive count of 22 wickets. He equaled Brad Hogg's record in the 17th over of the first innings, dismissing opener Litton Das (36) with a skillful delivery that found its way to Marnus Labuschagne at long-on for a catch.

In the 43rd over, Adam Zampa surpassed Hogg by claiming the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim (21), who failed to achieve the desired elevation and was caught by Pat Cummins at the short mid-wicket region.

With 22 dismissals, Adam Zampa now sits just behind Muttiah Muralitharan in the list of spinners with the most wickets in a single ODI World Cup edition. The Sri Lankan legend holds the record with 23 dismissals in 2007. Following Zampa are Brad Hogg, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi (21 in 2011), and Shane Warne (20 in 1999).

Australia had a challenging start to the ODI World Cup, and Adam Zampa mirrored that struggle initially. He remained wicketless in their opening seven-wicket defeat against India in Chennai and had a costly performance against South Africa in their second match, where he took one wicket but leaked 70 runs. However, he turned the tide with a four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka and maintained his form with at least three scalps in the subsequent four games.
