The Afghanistan cricket team aims to make a strong statement at this year’s T20 World Cup, starting June 2. The Asian outfit has finalized their squad for the event, to be held in the West Indies and the USA. Afghanistan's 15-player team will be led by star all-rounder Rashid Khan.
The squad features a balanced mix of experienced players and promising youngsters. However, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in last year's ODI World Cup, has not secured a spot, with his last T20I appearance being two years ago. Meanwhile, Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad, who played in the 2022 World Cup, have retained their places.
Alongside Rashid Khan, the Afghan spin department includes Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and Mohammad Nabi. The fast-bowling unit features Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq. Afghanistan has also selected three travelling reserves: Hazratullah Zazai, Saleem Safi, and Sediq Atal.
