BCB could make changes in the Bangladesh team

Bangladesh cricket is on the cusp of a comprehensive reformation in the wake of their forgettable ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. This transformation encompasses various aspects, from appointing a new captain for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand to Shakib Al Hasan's deliberation on his future. Although Shakib had previously announced his intention to step down from the ODI captaincy after the World Cup in a pre-tournament interview, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not considering it as an official declaration.

Jalal Yunus, the Chairman of Cricket Operations at BCB, stated, "He had not formally informed us about his decision to step down as captain before the ODI World Cup. We perceived that the interview was not an official statement."

Shakib, who serves as Bangladesh's Test captain, was forced to exit the remainder of the World Cup due to a fractured finger he incurred while batting against Sri Lanka. Consequently, this injury will also prevent him from participating in the two upcoming home Tests against New Zealand.

In the midst of these developments, there remains uncertainty surrounding Tamim Iqbal's future in the Test team. Tamim Iqbal had been absent from the World Cup due to back issues and has not participated in any of the four rounds of the ongoing National Cricket League, which is Bangladesh's primary first-class competition.
