The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially made some progress over their soon-to-be head coach position and they are all set to make an official announcement soon. Gautam Gambhir is among the frontrunners to take over the role, and he is expected to take over before Team India jets off for the Zimbabwe tour. Gambhir's appointment in the squad could turn out to be beneficial for the side as he could make opportunities for the players who have been promising in recent history. One such player is Shreyas Iyer, who could find himself a revival. But how will it happen?

Shreyas Iyer could find his chance of revival in national side? Reports suggests Gautam Gambhir's imminent hiring may do the job for him

It is certain that Gautam Gambhir is not just a favourite pick among the BCCI members, but the fans have been rooting for the former Indian opener to lead the side. Gambhir rose to prominence after he successfully mentored the Kolkata Knight Riders and helped them get their third IPL title win. The probable appointment of Gautam Gambhir as India's head coach may give IPL 2024-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer's international career the boost it needs.

Given that Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir have run the course together in the IPL 2024 season as the skipper and the mentor, the imminent appointment could bring back Iyer in the International format after he reached a standstill with them. The expected return for Iyer could be happening when India tours Sri Lanka for the ODI tour.

"There is every possibility that Shreyas will travel for the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. The last ODI that India played was in South Africa, and he scored a half-century (52). He had 500 plus runs (530) in the World Cup and averages just around 50. Can you drop him?" a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The relationship between Shreyas Iyer and the BCCI ended up being at a standstill after he had a fallout with the Board over his reluctance to compete in domestic tournaments while not competing for the national side. Iyer was snubbed off the central contracts extension list.

Iyer has maintained his stance as he had complained of lower back issues coming off the ODI World Cup 2023. While he did not play in several domestic games, he played in the Ranji Trophy Final and notched up 90 runs for his side, which ended up victorious. But the arrival of Gambhir could give Iyer a chance for revival.
