BAN veteran Shakib Al Hasan responds to Virender Sehwag's criticism

One of the reporters brought up his bad form in the post-match press conference. Shakib stated unequivocally that he didn't know what Sehwag had said about him. Shakib wondered "who" had commented on him before coolly responding, making it plain that he had no idea what Sehwag had said about him. The former captain underlined that It is not a player's responsibility to respond to critics verbally. The all-rounder for BAN also stated that it is fine for someone to doubt or disparage a player's output and value to the team at large.

"A player never comes [gets onto the field] to answer anyone else. A player's task is to bat if he is a batter, contribute to the team, bowl well if he is a bowler as getting wickets sometimes also depends on luck, and if he is a fielder then to save runs and take the catches that come his way.

"There is nothing to answer to anyone.  I think when a current player is not being able to contribute to the team as much as is expected of him then it usually invites a lot of questions, and I don't think it is a very bad thing," Shakib said at the post-match press conference after Bangladesh defeated Netherlands.

Legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag looked over the former captain of Bangladesh extremely closely, questioning Shakib's poor form and criticising his bad stroke choices.

"If he was included in the squad for experience, then we were not able to see it. At least spend some time at this wicket, it is not like you are not Hayden or Gilchrist who can play a pull shot of a short ball, you are just a player from Bangladesh. Play according to your standards. When you are not able to play hook or pull, so just play the strokes that you know," Sehwag said via Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh moved one step closer to qualifying for the Super Eight with Shakib's unbeaten 64 off 46 balls, helping the team set a challenging goal of 160 runs. Then, bowlers did their jobs, restricting the Dutch to 134 for eight.
