Glenn Maxwell does not fancy light shows

The light shows have become a usual thing in this ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They are being made a part of the match to appease the fans. Something similar of the sort took place during the mid-innings break of the Australia vs the Netherlands match. While the fans enjoyed the colourful show, the Big Show however wasn't on the same page with the fans.

As per Maxwell, the light show gives him a headache and he has not had a happy experience in the past regarding the light show.

"Well, I had something like that light show similar happened at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game and I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust," Maxwell said.

Maxwell divulged that he tries to cover his eyes, whenever, something like this happens on the ground and termed the show of attraction as "horrible".

"I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers when you've got this thing coming at you quickly and your eyes take so long to adjust and I think we just lost a wicket and the Perth Stadium lights went nuts and I was at the other end and it took me ages to get my eyes to go again and I felt like I had a headache. "So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it's a horrible, horrible idea. "Great for the fans, but horrible for the players," he added.

Maxwell reveals the illness

Glenn Maxwell made a 40-ball ton, which goes down as the quickest hundred ever in an ODI World Cup. He dealt in 4s and 6s, registering 8 maximums and 9 boundaries in his innings of 106 runs. Though he played when one of the best knocks of his life, Glenn Maxwell revealed that he wasn't 100% before the match.

"Yeah, not great. I was sitting in the changing room and I didn't really want to bat, which is a bit different than last game where I was way too eager to get out there. And then we talked about over arousal levels and I probably reached double the maximum if you couldn't tell. But yeah, I was a little bit more chilled when I got out there. Didn't have many high hopes, I think. But yeah, I've been pretty cooked the last couple of days. Coincided with the sleepless night last night with the family over but – Yeah," he added.

David Warner disagrees with Maxwell

Australian opener David Warner who scored a century along with Maxwell in the previous game was of a different opinion in terms of ‘Light shows’. Replying to a tweet, David Warner said, ‘I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love.’

Australia will next face New Zealand in Dharamshala on 28th October.
