In a surprising move, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has called off the practice session scheduled ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 final. This decision comes after India secured their place in the final by defeating England by 68 runs in the second semi-final on Thursday, June 27. The Men in Blue are set to face South Africa in the much-anticipated final on June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Why did Rohit Sharma cancel Team India's practice session?

Reports suggest that the Indian team has canceled their training session in Barbados to allow the players to rest, given the early start of the final on Saturday. According to reports, quoting ICC sources, the Indian team arrived in Barbados in the early hours of Friday, exhausted from their travel.

The semi-final match against England took place in Guyana, and the team immediately boarded a flight to Barbados post-match. With the final set to begin in less than 29 hours, the players have limited time to recover and prepare.

In the past year, Rohit Sharma has remarkably led India to the final of three major ICC events: the World Test Championship in June 2023, the ODI World Cup in November, and now the T20 World Cup. Seven months ago, experts proclaimed this as India’s best chance to secure a World Cup victory, but nothing compares to the opportunity that lies ahead just 36 hours from now.

The T20 World Cup final, featuring the two unbeaten teams of the tournament, promises an exhilarating clash. For India, this could be the ultimate moment to end a decade-long wait for a World Cup triumph.
