Shane Watson made a huge statement about Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson observed that Mohammed Shami, an Indian fast bowler, has taken over as Mohammed Siraj's replacement in the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. At the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29, Shami displayed his skill by taking four vital wickets in India's decisive 100-run victory over the reigning champions, England.

In an interview with Star Sports, Watson highlighted Shami's remarkable achievement and credited his 2023 World Cup performance for propelling him to the front of the team. Shami's incredible achievement of taking nine wickets in two tournament matches further cemented his crucial position in the team. He said:

“It's a great problem for India to have. That's a sign of a team that's in incredible form where all the players are putting their hands up and playing at their best. In my mind, Shami has taken over Siraj’s spot because of the way he's bowled in the last two games. He's been incredible,”

Shane Watson was astounded by Mohammed Shami

Watson continued his evaluation by emphasizing the extremely difficult task of taking on Mohammed Shami at the height of his game. Shami's extraordinary skills were on full show when he claimed an impressive five wickets against New Zealand and then made another significant contribution in the match against England in Lucknow, taking four vital wickets. Watson's comments highlight Shami's potent presence as a bowler who, at his peak, can provide serious challenges to the opposition. He added:

“When Shami is at his best, as we saw against England, he's just so difficult to play. He can beat any batter on the outside or the inside. And because his length is so accurate, it's always hitting the stumps. He's always in there asking questions. It was unfortunate that Hardik went down injured. But that meant that Shami got an opportunity, and for me he's surpassed Siraj because of the way he's been bowling,”

Mohammed Shami was the most outstanding player in India's convincing 100-run victory against England in Lucknow, taking his sixth four-wicket haul in World Cup history. Throughout this pivotal game, Shami's bowling spells made a clear declaration about his intentions and abilities. Even though he has been out of the lineup for ODIs on occasion because of worries about his workload and form, Shami has shown time and time again that he is India's number-one option in World Cup matches. He was much more important to the Indian squad in these kinds of high-stakes matches because of his outstanding performance in this encounter.
