Virat Kohli has had a tough T20 World Cup 2024. The batter struggled for runs in the group stage and was dismissed on scores like 4, 1, and 0. However, the prolific run-scorer from India displayed shades of returning to form during the India vs Afghanistan Super Eight match, played at Kensington Oval Barbados. Kohli scored a gritty knock of 24 runs in the match and in his brief stay he left the viewers dwelling on a stroke of sweet past.
The aesthetically attractive opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again failed to provide India a solid start. After the departure of Rohit Sharma, who got dismissed at a score of 8, Virat Kohli took a cautious approach. He did all the hard work in assessing the pitch and seemingly took the traditional, steady then fast, route. However, in the 5th over of the Indian innings, Kohli pounced on a short of length delivery of Naveen Ul-Haq and gave it a similar treatment as he gave it to the delivery of Haris Rauf two years ago in the India vs Pakistan match of T20 World Cup 2022. Here's how Virat Kohli recreated his iconic shot.
Virat Kohli signalled optimism with this shot but soon held out in the deep on Rashid Khan.
Virat Kohli's wicket left India in a spot of bother and Shivam Dube's dismissal later on worsened the situation. Nevertheless, Suryakumar Yadav stepped up for the team once again. He and Hardik Pandya pummelled Afghanistan for 60 runs together and showed India the way toward 180. Team India gave Afghanistan a target of 182. In the bowling, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh starred for India. Eventually, India recorded a convincing win of 47 runs. Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the player of the match for scoring 53 in 28 balls.
