India and Sri Lanka are currently locking horns against each other in their seventh match of the ODI World Cup 2023. Batting first, India posted a massive 357/8 on the board thanks to half-centuries from Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88), and Shreyas Iyer (82), all of whom missed their centuries by a whisker. Dilshan Madushanka picked up a five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka as he dismissed India's top-order batters including Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.

Who is Dilshan Madushanka?

Dilshan Madushanka, born on September 18, 2000, is a professional cricketer hailing from Sri Lanka. In January 2020, he was selected to represent Sri Lanka in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His standout performance came on January 27, during Sri Lanka's plate quarter-final match against Nigeria, where Madushanka achieved a remarkable five-wicket haul.

By December 2020, Madushanka received the call to join Sri Lanka's Test squad for their series against South Africa. In February 2021, he found himself included in Sri Lanka's limited-overs squad for their series against the West Indies. In April 2021, he once again earned a spot in Sri Lanka's Test squad, this time for their series against Bangladesh.

April 2022 saw Madushanka's return to Sri Lanka's Test squad for another series against Bangladesh. His List A debut took place on June 8, 2022, when he represented Sri Lanka A against Australia A during Australia's tour of Sri Lanka. Later that month, he was named in Sri Lanka's Test squad once more, this time for their home series against Australia.

July of the same year marked yet another inclusion in Sri Lanka's Test squad, this time for their home series against Pakistan. In August 2022, he received a call-up to Sri Lanka's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2022 Asia Cup. His T20I debut came on August 27, 2022, against Afghanistan.

Dilshan Madushanka made a sensational start to his international career, showcasing his skills, particularly in the match against India, where he troubled the Indian top-order with his lethal swing, knocking down the stumps twice, including two wickets of Virat Kohli and Deepak Hooda.

On January 10, 2023, Dilshan Madushanka made his One Day International (ODI) debut against India, securing his maiden ODI wicket by dismissing Rohit Sharma. Finally, his Test debut came on July 24, 2023, against Pakistan, marking another milestone in his burgeoning cricket career.
