The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on May 14, 2024, that Najmul Hossain Shanto would captain Bangladesh in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The left-handed batter Shanto has been named captain of the squad. Remarkably, after missing the last T20 World Cup in Australia, seasoned player Mahmudullah is scheduled to compete in this one again. Right-arm quick bowler Taskin Ahmed has been selected vice captain despite his present injury. Additionally on the team are seasoned players like right-handed batter Litton Das and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh played five games in the T20 World Cup 2022, winning two of them, although they were unable to go past the Super 12 round. Bangladesh has a chance at the next competition to improve their international performance.

Shanto's team will kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on June 7 against archrivals Sri Lanka. Bangladesh will meet South Africa on June 10. Their third and fourth group stage matches will be against the Netherlands and Nepal, on June 13 and 16, respectively. The Super Eight matches will take place from June 19 to June 25.
