Germany vs Switzerland predicted lineups: Should Julian Nagelsmann rest Germany's starters?

The day is finally here as Germany and Switzerland are going to lock horns with each other at the Stadium Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. This will mark the beginning of matchday three as Germany and Switzerland will play their final group stage fixtures against each other.

Germany have already qualified to the round of 16 with six points after their comfortable 2-0 win over Hungary in matchday 2. Switzerland however are still in the hunt for qualification as they are placed into second in the standings in Group A after their draw against Scotland in matchday 2.

Should Germany rest their starters for Euro 2024 match vs Switzerland?

With Germany having already sealed their berth in the knockout stage of the tournament there are suggestions being made that Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann should rest key players vs Switzerland.  

This is because their match vs Switzerland is at Frankfurt and the condition of the pitch in Frankfurt is deemed to be very poor. Nagelsmann in his pre match press conference acknowledged that a field like the one in Frankfurt poses a serious injury to players.

Citing this reason Julian Nagelsmann could be tempted to rest key players like Kai Havertz, Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan, Jamal Musiala and more for the clash.  

However, Germany could well go with a full strength starting lineup as they have not won their group just yet. This has been Germany’s best start to a major tournament since the 2014 world cup but a loss against Switzerland will mean that the Swiss will qualify for round of 16 in first place while Germany in 2nd.  

This could mean Germany might get on the wrong side of the knockout draw early on and face tougher opponents. To maintain their perfect start and momentum, Germany could very well field their full strength squad.
