After a hectic couple of days for Inter Miami without star player Lionel Messi, the 8-time Ballon D'Or winner made his return to Inter Miami's playing XI with a bang as he got his name on the scoresheet for Inter Miami against Cavalier SC. Inter Miami travelled to the Caribbean for the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 match. Inter Miami had picked up the win in the first leg and were looking to finalize it in the second leg. With Lionel Messi back in the ranks, Inter Miami did just that as they defeated Cavalier SC 2-0.
Lionel Messi who had missed the previous three matches for Inter Miami made his return to the scoresheet. In the second leg of their CONCACAF round of 16 match, Luis Suarez opened the scoring for Inter Miami when he successfully converted a penalty in the 37th minute.
It was a quiet game until 2 minutes after injury time after the 90th minute when Lionel Messi scored a goal to announce his comeback after missing the last three matches for Inter Miami. Inter Miami picked up the win with a 4-0 score on aggregate against Cavalier SC.
Lionel Messi had missed the last three matches for Inter Miami due to fatigue. As he made his return in the match against Cavalier SC, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano opened up on the situation.
“We want him playing but we wanted to find the moment to send him onto the pitch and it was the right one. He felt good and people in Jamaica could see him. It was a great night for all,” said Inter Miami's head coach and former Barcelona player Javier Mascherano.
Inter Miami will next play against Los Angeles FC in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
