Pedro's Late Strike Stuns Manchester United As Brighton Hand Red Devils First Premier League Loss
Joao Pedro scored a fantastic header in 95th minute for Brighton to stun Manchester United and hand them their first Premier League loss of the season.
Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag were left stunned in matchday 2 of the Premier League as Joao Pedro scored in the 95th minute to lead Brighton and Hove Albion to a 2-1 win over Manchester United.
Manchester United were sluggish throughout the game and it felt they were getting away with a point after a stunning goal by Amad Diallo, but as it turned out, Joao Pedro rose up in stoppage time and scored a clinical header to hand Erik Ten Hag and his side their first loss of the season.
A frustrating first half
Manchester United started the first half slow paced and trying to build up from the back just like they did in their opening Premier League fixture. However, unlike the game against Fulham, Brighton capitalised on Manchester United's lack of urgency.
Danny Welbeck stunned his former side once again as he netted home in the 32nd minute of the game to hand Brighton a 1-0 lead. The goal was a milestone one for Danny Welbeck as it was his 100th goal in the Premier League. Additionally, it was also the fifth time Welbeck has scored against Manchester United.
Amad Diallo's individual brilliance
In the 60th minute of the game, Manchester United's new signing in Noussair Mazroui sent Amad through via an incisive pass.
Amad Diallo cut inside the Brighton box in lightning speed and wrongfooting the defenders as he fired a thunderous strike on target which was deflected inside the goal by Steele.
Offside flag denies Manchester United
Erik Ten Hag and his side were left frustrated at the end of the day as they were denied twice by the offside flag. As soon as United went down in the first half, Marcus Rashford equalised a few minutes later but his goal was disallowed as the offside flag was raised.
After Diallo equalised in the second half, Manchester United thought they had won all three points when Garnacho fired them ahead in the 70th minute via a tap in. However, United's striker Joshua Zirkee was found to be offside and interfering in the play hence the goal was chalked off.
