Four of Real Madrid's players — Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Antonio Rüdiger and Dani Ceballos — have come under the radar of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for alleged indecent conduct during the second of its Round of 16 tie in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. The players have been singled out after they allegedly hurled gestures towards the Atletico fans at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Real Madrid secured a huge victory against Atlético Madrid after Antonio Rudiger scored the winning penalty. Photos and videos have erupted over social media where Madris stars like Mbappe and Vini Jr allegedly make obscene gestures towards the home fans. Rudiger also made an indecent gesture while Ceballos made a lewd action to the Atletico supporters before heading into the tunnel and towards the dressing room.
In response to the alleged actions, UEFA has released a statement which notified that a disciplinary inspector would investigate the allegations made over the four Los Blancos stars.
“A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to investigate allegations of indecent conduct by Real Madrid CF players (Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Daniel Ceballos Fernandez and Vinicius Junior) during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match between Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF on 12 March 2025,” A statement from UEFA read, as quoted by The Athletic.
Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid after winning the shootout by 4-3 after they finished 2-2 on aggregate at the Metropolitano Stadium.
If the Real Madrid players were found guilty of their actions, the player could face a ban, which would force them to sit out of Los Blancos' next game against Arsenal on April 8, 2025. The match would be huge as it would be the first leg of the quarterfinals, and Real would need to have their top players up for action if they want to stand toe-to-toe against Arsenal.
It is yet to be seen what action would be taken if Mbappe, Vini Jr., among the four Real Madrid players, were found guilty of the alleged charges.
