Formula One team Sauber is currently the only team on the F1 grid that has not scored even a single point as now only six races are left in the season. What is an even bigger cause of concern is that Kick Sauber F1 team will transition and turn into the Audi F1 team from 2026 when the new regulations kick in. The team currently in the 2024 season is struggling a lot and are almost a second slower than the other teams. This is a cause of concern for Mattia Binotto who is tasked with turning Audi into a race winning team and car from 2026 onwards.

Audi Have A Gap To Cover Before 2026

Ex-Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto has revealed that Audi need to work quite hard and have a long way to go before they are able to match the levels of the other teams.

“I’ve been visiting Neuberg in the last days and weeks.

“The engine is progressing well, running on the dyno, some long distances so far already performed ,” Binotto said.

“I think here as well, it’s a learning process. We are competing with other organisations where manufacturers are settled down,

“Certainly, all the experience is pretty important and valid.

“So while I think the organisation there [at Audi] is great, the facilities are great, the programs are going ahead, still there is a learning curve, which needs to be done.

“So I’m expecting initially to have a gap to recover. How big it will be, I think that you can never know,” emphasised Binotto on Audi's gap to other teams.

Gap To Others Unknown Until Car Hits The Track

Mattia Binotto has further revealed that Audi can not know the exact deficit to other teams and their cars in terms of pace until and unless their own car hits the track for testing sessions.

“Only by the time we will be on track that we can only understand. But we’ve got more than a year from now to then.

“There is an intense program on the dynos in development and it will be our task to make sure that we can enforce it, speeding up as much as we can, but try to be as competitive as we can be at the start of 2026,” said Binotto.
