Aryna Sabalenka Clinches Historic Feat at Wuhan Open After Defeating Qinwen Zheng

Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her Wuhan Open title after she defeated Qinwen Zheng in the final of the WTA event in China. The Belarusian tennis star won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, and she etched her name in the history books. Sabalenka became the first woman to win the title for three years in a row to extend her winning streak to 17-0 in Wuhan, China. Aryna won the titles back in 2018 and 2019.

After winning the title and making history, Sabalenka expressed that she was a bit frustrated during the match and she lost some of her focus, which led to Zheng securing a win in the second game. But in the end, the results landed in her favour, and she was elated with the historic finish at the WTA event in Wuhan, China.

“Honestly, I felt like I just lost little bit focus, and I let her come back in the match. I got a little bit frustrated there. It became a three-set match. Balls are getting heavier, it’s third set, a bit emotional.

“I wouldn’t say that she did something differently. I would say that I just played kind of like against myself. But I’m really happy I was able to put everything together in the third set and get this win,” Sabalenka said to the reporters after the match.

Though Sabalenka had won all three of her previous encounters against Zheng Qinwen in straight sets — including the Australian Open final. But the second set loss got to her nerves. Qinwen Zheng tried to threaten an upset win in the game as she looked determined to pull off a win. But Aryna came back strong in the third set to go 6-3 against the home favourite tennis star to become the first female tennis player to win the title for three years in a row.
