Xiaomi will launch the Mi 9 Pro 5G in China on September 24. The Mi 9 Pro 5G is set to be a more powerful and faster charging take on the Mi 9 which was launched earlier in the year. That in addition to the fact, that the Mi 9 Pro will also support 5G connectivity. Ahead of D-day, Xiaomi has revealed the design of the Mi 9 Pro especially from the back, while the front can be seen in full view via a listing on Chinese online retail website JD.com.
The Mi 9 Pro will not look very different from the Mi 9. Xiaomi is really touting the Mi 9 Pro’s Dreamy White color though that can look anywhere from pearl white, to pink, to blue depending on how light reflects off its surface. There’s an all-familiar triple camera setup arranged vertically on the back and no physical fingerprint reader – the Mi 9 Pro will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner like the Mi 9. The Mi logo meanwhile rests at the bottom – just like how it is in the Mi 9. On the front, the Mi 9 Pro is set to come with a waterdrop-style or dot notch as Xiaomi likes to call it.

The biggest changes will be coming in hardware. The Mi 9 Pro is expected to be a more powerful variant of the Mi 9 with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855+ processor (the Mi 9 came with SD855) and 4,000mAh battery (the Mi 9 came with a 3,300mAh) under the hood. The biggest USP of the Mi 9 Pro, however, will be its 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech which is claimed to top up a 4,000mAh battery phone in 69 minutes, wirelessly – while a 50 per cent charge is said to take some 25 minutes.
Xiaomi claims its 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech uses a 5-layer nanocrystal receiver coil with a conversion efficiency of up to a 98 per cent. This should help keep things under check when it comes to temperature throttling. Xiaomi is also expected to launch a 30W wireless Mi Charge Turbo tech compliant wireless charging pad, alongside the Mi 9 Pro 5G. It would be interesting to see if Xiaomi also bundles one in the box with the Mi 9 Pro 5G - or it would be available for purchase separately.
The Mi 9 Pro will be accompanied by the Mi Mix 4 or Mi Mix Alpha (that Xiaomi has teased via a separate reveal) and Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 software.
