Samsung to launch new Galaxy device on October 21
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition was initially rumoured to be in the works in January.
Samsung has announced it is holding an event on October 21 to launch a new Galaxy device. While the company did not say what device it would be, rumours point to the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition – an upgraded version of Samsung’s latest foldable flagship that arrived in August. Previous reports have suggested the next Galaxy Z Fold 6 model will feature a redesigned camera island and a more premium and textured back.
Renowned tipster Evan Blass had earlier posted what looks like the official renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition. The phone uses a gold rose frame with a textured finish like the Crafted Black version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The camera island is rectangular instead of using a pill-shaped design from the existing foldable. While unclear from looking at the image, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will use an improved hinge for a less visible crease on the display. Reports have also said the cameras will use better sensors and algorithms for enhanced photography, but specifics are unclear.
Specifications-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition could pack an 8-inch main display, instead of a 7.6-inch panel found on the regular model. The outer display will also expand to 6.5 inches compared to 6.3 inches on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung could also equip the next Galaxy Z Fold smartphone with better hardware, but it may still use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The sequel Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could come to next year’s foldable.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition was initially rumoured to be in the works in January. However, some industry insiders later said Samsung might have killed the project. Then, a few days back, a post showing the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition listed on a South Korean retailer began doing rounds on the internet, hinting at its launch – now confirmed by Samsung. Rumours also suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will be exclusive to Korea, but Samsung may plan to launch it as Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra in international markets later.
