Apple iTunes axing reports have now picked up pace and the service is now rumoured to be replaced during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference that is not too far away from kick-off at San Jose in California. If this turns out true, then there are realistic possibilities of an entirely new standalone service Music streaming and Podcasts where Apple is currently amongst the domain leaders.
Now, as if these reports weren’t enough to fuel speculation of Apple iTunes service being deprecated (even replaced potentially via a split; rather than the whole service being terminated), the official iTunes social media posts also look different across both Facebook and Instagram. This was noticed by a Redditt tipster going by the moniker MalteseAppleFan. When we checked the official Facebook and Instagram accounts of iTunes, we were redirected to the Apple TV official social media pages instead.
However, Apple iTunes’ Twitter posts (and account) are seemingly intact. AT this point in time, a Bloomberg report states that Apple would launch a plethora of dedicated applications to substitute iTunes, for all its platforms viz iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, podcasts, and Mac.
Also, it is possible that iTunes could be split into separate standalone apps instead; differentiated on a device-basis.
Hence, with iTunes as the focal point, Apple’s WWDC could become all the more interesting; especially the keynote by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook. Here, you should remember that the popular service entirely changed, the way in which users consume music and multimedia content, from the last two decades.
In related developments, rumours about Apple iTunes sunsetting (replaced) has not seemed to have gone done well with Twitterati who have taken to the micro-blogging site to express discontentment over Apple’s rumoured manoeuvre. Check out some reactions below, do let us know yours as well:
