Epic Games Store lacks basic email verification, allows anyone to sign up using your email address

According to a Reddit post, Epic Games Store lacks bare essentials when it comes to safeguarding user accounts. A Reddit user who goes by the screen name -dov- has alleged that Epic Games Store doesn’t validate email address when users create accounts.

As the matter of fact, email verification is the least one can expect when they sign up for any online services on the Internet. The whole idea behind email verifications process is to prevent mischievous people from using your email address to sign up for any online services.

-dov- claims to have discovered fraudulent accounts using two of their email addresses while signing up on the Epic Games Store and -dov- asserts they did not receive any verification emails either. Even after creating a new account, -dov- says he did not receive a verification email.

We have verified the claims made by -dov-, and to our surprise, those claims are indeed true. After we signed up for the Epic Games Store account, we did not receive any communication from them. 

“I cannot believe a multi-billion dollar company doesn't even have that basic of a security step for their customers,” said -dov- in their Reddit post.

However, -dov-  is not alone. In fact, many users have commented on Reddit complaining about the issue.

Adding fuel to the fire, moderators have labelled the post as “Misleading.”

“If some people are getting validation emails, great. But I never did to the two accounts that were being squatted on by fraudulent users or when I created a new account with a third email to test it,” -dov- added.
