In what could be good news for TiKTok fans in India, the TikTok app has finally made a comeback. The popular video-sharing app is once again available to download. So interested Android and iOS users can go to Play Store and App Store to download the latest version of the TikTok app in India.
Last week, the Madras High Court ruled in favour of TikTok and lifted the intern ban on the app. Earlier this month, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court had directed the centre to ban the TikTok app over the concerns of "pornographic and inappropriate content" is made available through it.
According to updated Google Play Store listing, the app was updated on April 22, the day when the Supreme Court of India issued an ultimatum to the Madras High Court to act upon the plea on April 24 or else the ban stands vacated. The updated listing only mentions about some new security settings for users. However, TikTok hasn't added any new features to the app.
The Android version of the app is 81.43MB in size and it's rated for 12+ that recommends parental guidance.
However, the TikTok app took almost a week to reappear on the Play Store and App Store, in spite of the Madras High Court lifting the interim ban on the app. We have reliably learnt from our source familiar with the matter ByteDance did not immediately receive the final court order, which in turn caused the delay.
The Madras High Court lifted the ban on TikTok on condition that TikTok should not be used to host obscene videos. A bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and S S Sundar of the Madurai Bench of the High Court warned the platform against hosting "controversial" video violating its conditions.
Recently, two men from Haryana, Sarvjit Singh and Mandeep Singh were arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The police arrested the duo for dancing to Punjabi songs in a TiKTok video that was recorded in the Golden Temple complex.
ByteDance plans to invest $1 billion in India over the next three years and increase the number of employees in India to 1,000 employees by the end of this year.
