Oral-B’s Genius X toothbrush uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to tell users more about their brushing habits and if they have missed any teeth. The prototype was recently showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. While the pricing wasn’t revealed, Oral-B GeniusX toothbrush will be up for grabs September 2019 onwards.

The underlying AI integration enables tracking to keep users aware of their brushing habits including what areas they cover or neglect in their mouth. It also offers personalised feedback via the Oral-B app. The companion app is available to download for both Android and iOS users. The feedback includes the right amount of time and pressure, based on your habits.

Oral-B Genius X will be available in multiple colour options such as white, black, orchid purple, pink and anthracite grey. It comes with a travel case that charges both the brush and your smartphone. Earlier, the Oral-B Genius X was also showcased at CES in Vegas.

How exactly it works

The Oral-B Genius X uses gyroscope and accelerometer to detect subtle changes in the toothbrush’s location. There are three key features of Oral-B Genius X toothbrush: Position Detection, Pressure Control and Personalised Coaching.

'Position Detection' feature makes sure you cover every area, every time whereas 'Position Control' gives you a warning when you are using too much pressure. Oral-B Genius X provides users with a personalised brushing score at the end of each brushing session.

“Every patient is unique, that is why we are looking for solutions that adapt to the individual. Oral-B gives patients an excellent and personalized brushing experience, without having to change the way they brush to achieve their best oral health result. This makes it a real breakthrough,” said Prof. Dr. Ralf Rössler from the University for Digital Technologies in Dentistry & Medicine in Luxembourg.
