The next-gen Samsung Galaxy iteration of smartphones could indeed offer compatibility with 5G, and this smartphone could be launched in 2019. At this instant in time, it is worth noting that Samsung Galaxy loyalists have been having huge expectations from the South Korea-based electronics company with respect to witnessing the successor to the current Galaxy S9 series of smartphones.

Now, as per an official Sprint update, the carrier would launch a 5G compatible smartphone in partnership with Samsung. This handset would run Sprint’s 5G network that would be deployed in the near future. As far as 5G is concerned, Sprint states that it would initially deploy the next-gen wireless network in cities viz Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington, D.C in the US.

As far as the Sprint-driven Samsung smartphone (rumoured for now) is concerned, this would offer dual-band compatibility; with LTE as well as 5G.

“Samsung is one of our key 5G network infrastructure Massive MIMO providers, so we are delighted that they will also deliver one of our first 5G smartphones, putting blazing fast connectivity right into our customers’ hands,” stated Dr John Saw who is Chief Technology Officer at Sprint.

At this juncture, it is not known as to when there would be a 5G-compatible Samsung smartphone in India; this could take up time till 2020 considering the fact that the LTE ecosystem is now mature; hence, it could only be a matter of time before 5G-compatible flagship devices hit the Indian market.

In 5G-related developments, the current CES 019 has a separate track on 5G; now this is important considering the fact that the next-gen technology is a key element within smart cities and for these to actually (physically) surface; even globally. In case 5G connectivity is supplemented by aspects viz the IoT, AI, ML, Data-driven models; then there should be nothing stopping the human society to become actually smarter - rather than turning smarter only through acquired intelligence.
