The Change (change.org) petition started to attempt to get Xiaomi to reduce the price of its recent Redmi K20 by Rs 2000 and to make the 128GB internal storage edition as the base variant; rather than the 64GB variant, has now been gaining rapid traction and has garnered close to 4400 signatures out of a targeted 5000.

This has also resulted in the creator of the petition draft an open letter to Xiaomi detailing reasons for requesting the price cut and the petition filed on the Change platform. At this juncture, the launch price of the Redmi K20 is Rs 22,000 for the 6GB (RAM)+ 64GB (storage) edition. The 128GB variant costs Rs 24,000.

The creator of the petition, once considered by a certain cross-section of smartphone enthusiasts as hilarious, has stated that the aim of the petition would be to convey reachability of the thoughts of those having signed to Xiaomi.

Also, the price in China of the Redmi K20 is said to be Rs 19990; another reason stated by the creator of the petition is the ads playing on the premium smartphone.

With close to 400 signatures, being garnered over relatively lesser periods of time, the petition could reach its intended 5000 signatures very soon.

As far as the open letter, written by the petition’s creator, it is reminiscent of Xiaomi’s Manu Kumar Jain’s open letter a while ago that addressed Xiaomi loyalists whilst explaining the reasons for the pricing.
