Finally, Voice Calls And Text Messages Can Be Exchanged Without Internet, Cellular Connectivity

It is now possible to speak to people, over the phone, in a short distance range without having to use a data pack or Wi-Fi connection. Oppo has demonstrated this technology called the MeshTalk at the ongoing Shanghai Mobile World Congress (MWC). 

The Oppo MeshTalk makes it possible to initiate voice calls without the need for an active connection, within a 3 KM range.  The MeshTalk uses a low power chipset that creates a custom Local Area Network (LAN)  and a relay communication system within in between Oppo devices within the 3 KM radius.  

MeshTalk is seemingly restricted to only Oppo mobile devices, as of now. Oppo stated that even sending of conventional text messages would be enabled via MeshTalk. At this point in time, Oppo has showcased the MeshTalk framework, it is not known as to when the technology would witness commercial deployment within Oppo’s smartphones.

In other Oppo-related updates, the company's popular A3s smartphone recently witnessed a 4GB RAM variant. There was already a 3GB edition of the smartphone; now, a 4GB RAM edition takes the smartphone to the premium smartphones segment in India. Pricing of the 4GB RAM Oppo A3s is apparently in the Rs 12000 range.
