Apple maybe looking to rejig its annual new iPhone availability and iOS update rollout this year, if an alleged internal document is anything to go by. The document titled “Apple Software Development Resources” which is apparently meant for use by Apple employees, its engineering team, retailers and contractors, has leaked online giving us tentative look at the Cupertino major’s hardware and software release cycle for the year 2019. Apple is gearing to launch the iPhone 11 lineup on September 10, and as per the leaked document, the company will start selling the new iPhones from September 27.

New iPhones

The iPhones in question will be the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max – as being widely speculated. Core hardware specifics do not make a mention in the leaked document, but it does reveal the software side of things. The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max may or may not ship with iOS 13.0.1 out-of-the-box - this is because the document suggests Apple will roll out the said update as a security patch for all iPhones sometime in October. Whatever be the case, the new iPhones will ship with iOS 13, which is said to be rolled out for all iPhones from September 23, according to the leaked document.

iOS 13 will bring a dedicated dark mode to the iPhone (and iPad), among other things. Being a system-wide dark mode means users will be able to experience it across the length and breadth of the UI – right from the dock to native apps. Apple is also opening the feature to third-party developer who can also integrate dark mode into their apps. The feature will no doubt be more useful (and catchier) in Apple’s OLED toting iPhones where it will also help reduce battery strain, extending battery life in the process. The effect will be less pronounced on LCD toting iPhones like the iPhone XR though.

As has been the case for a while now, macOS 10.15 Catalina, iPadOS 13, watchOS 6 and tvOS 13 are all expected to be available for compatible Apple devices alongside the iOS 13 roll out – which is said to be from September 23.
