The Redmi Go smartphone driven by the Android Go platform introducing Android 8.1 (Oreo) Go operating platform is now official and USP of this device is seemingly its 3000 mAh battery that is a rarity in Android One devices which are generally low-end; but offer relatively interesting feature-set.

Now, the obvious aspect about Android Go smartphones is that their price tag is generally on the more affordable side by virtue of relatively low-end yet decent hardware aspects. At this juncture, it is worth noting that Redmi and parent brand Xiaomi have been capturing eyeballs of buyers across India and have been engaged in intense competition with the likes of Samsung which has also now launched the M10 and M20 series of affordable smartphones which have a sub-Rs 11K pricing.

Also, Redmi itself has a multitude of handsets that are priced below Rs 10000; with most of these being  on the minds of smartphone buyers; the budget segment in India could get the much-needed boost with Android Go smartphones that come with the Google brand value whilst ensuring comparatively smoother user interface over trending Android OS platforms.

As far as the latest Redmi Go smartphone is concerned, the handset comes with key technical specifications such as:

  • 5-inch HD Display with 720p high resolution
  • Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.4GHz
  • 8MP rear camera; offering LED-flash
  • 5MP front snapper
  • 3000mAh battery.

In this scenario, the launch date of the Redmi Go has not been revealed by Redmi, but rumour mills are abuzz with the fact that the phone would be launched in India towards the end of February. Pricing of the handset could be less than Rs 10000 considering the low-end hardware and the fact that the Android Go handsets are specially targeted at the ultra budget-conscious preferring to mostly own their first smartphones without having to part with hard earned earnings. Hence, do share thoughts on your buying preferences with respect to Android Go smartphones.
