Kumbh JioPhone, tailor-made for pilgrims undertaking the Kumbh Mela pilgrimage (Ardh Kumbh this time around) during the season that starts from January 15 and goes on till March 4 2019, is now official and its USP is that it comes with features such as family locator and lost & found aspects that should theoretically keep loved ones connected through the course of the pilgrimage.

Now, similar to the first-gen Reliance Jio JioPhones, the Kumbh JioPhone is priced at Rs 501, also requiring users to recharge for Rs 594 to access free LTE internet and unlimited calling for a period of 6 months.  The VoLTE-enabled feature phone would be available for purchase via the JioStore; both new as well as current JioPhone users are eligible to procure the Kumbh JioPhone.

In case you are desirous or have got your hands on the Kumbh JioPhone, co check for functionality such as:

  • Full real-time travel-related information with respect to the Kumbh Mela 2019

  • Details regarding maps and directions from and to important locations at Prayagraj

  • Emergency helpline numbers

  • Useful local guide information

  • Information regarding Yatri Ashray at Stations

  • Darshan of Kumbh festivities through JioTV application

  • Customized Kumbh Radio with devotional audio playing round the clock

  • First-hand information regarding updates (as and when these take place) with respect to the Kumbh

  • Family locator, and lost & found functionality that should contain information on lost persons, and nearly shelters where care is given.

The Kumbh JioPhone is also compatible with Google Assistant and incorporates additional conventional applications such as YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook. AT this juncture, it is worth noting that feature-phones are still seemingly alive; a fact which is relevant considering the fact that a recent Counterpoint research report threw light on these phones still accounting for nearly 23% of overall phone shipments during Q3 2018. The JioPhone and Nokia 3310 were reportedly on top of users’ minds during the period coinciding with the end of the third quarter of 2018.

For the uninitiated, the Kumbh Mela witnesses an average of 3 crore pilgrims at any point in time. Religious leaders congregate in Prayagraj to offer prayers and take holy dips at the Ganges. Elaborate arrangements for the pilgrims are already in place at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
