Which smartphones do you think were the top shipped ones in 2019 till now? Did you know that the top three phones here are reportedly from the same brand?

As per an IDC report, firstly, Xiaomi has been the highest shipped smartphone brand in Q1 2019; and this amounted to 9.8 million; with devices like the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Go having turned out to be popular during this time period. However, as per Xiaomi’s Manu Kumar Jain who via Twitter stated that the top three best-selling smartphones encapsulating both online and offline retail channels were the Redmi 6A, Redmi Note 6 Pro, and the Redmi Y2 respectively. The market share of these phones was 9.5%, 4.8%, and 3.86% respectively.

The IDC report does not mention anything about which the top selling smartphones are.   After Xiaomi, the next place is held by Samsung with 7.2 million shipments and 22.3% market share. This is in comparison to the 30.6% share of Xiaomi.

Brands like Oppo and Vivo have also reported growth, as per IDC, and shipments of these brands amounted to 4.2 million and 2.4 million respectively. Market shares of these brands were 13.0% and 7.6% respectively; with Vivo reporting a more than 100% growth over market share in Q1 2018.

Both Oppo and Vivo were behind Samsung and Xiaomi. The fifth spot in this list is occupied by Realme that held 6.0% market share in Q1 2019; other brands accounted for 20.5% market share with shipments amounting to 6.6 million. This was reportedly in stark decline and the percentage was 28.3%.

Total smartphone shipments in Q1 2019 amounted to 2.1 million.

“n 2019, we should expect further aggressive offline expansion by the online-heavy vendors to get a wider footprint in smaller cities and towns. Having said that, the influence of the online channels and their focus on the smartphone business will continue,” stated Navkendar Singh who is Research Director of Client Devices and IPDS, at IDC India; with respect to estimations about smartphone shipments in 2019.
