Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 that recently saw the light of day in India sure looks durable. How about subjecting the budget flagship to actual durability tests? For those of you excited with the prospect of determining the toughness and endurance limit of the Redmi Note 7 smartphone, check out a real-world evaluation below.

Renowned technology analyst going by the YouTube moniker of JerryRigEverything has subjected the Xiaomi Redmi note 7 to durability tests, displayed via his new

. The teardrop camera notch at the front and the dual rear camera arrangement undoubtedly add display fervour to the externals of the smartphone. But how do the externals (and the internals combined) survive the durability evaluation?

Test 1 - Scratch performance:

JerryRigEverything starts off with the scratch test; the Gorilla Glass 5 protector actually does a good job as there are no visible scratches till level 6 of the scratch test. The scratches start becoming visible after this level. These prove that the display protection offered is fairly good.

The SIM-card tray that can hold two SIM-cards and the inner water-resistant ring came apart comparatively quickly from the time of being subjected to scratch/force tests. An aspect worth noting here is the fact that the SIM-card tray is made up of plastic.

As far as the side panels and other buttons are concerned the plastic coating came apart under more than normal pressure; which is completely normal, and not bad. The rear panel was also subjected to scratch tests, and the fingerprint scanner showed nearly zero scratches during the tests.

Test 2 - Burn evaluation

JerryRigEverything’s burn evaluation resulted in the Redmi Note 7 lasting 9 seconds when its display was subjected to heat and effect from the flames. The display seemingly self-healed after a while without pixels being distorted.

Test 3 - Bend evaluation

When bent under normal pressure, the phone showed no signs of cracks despite being flexed. The phone’s display cracked when bent from the other side, these cracks are noticed on the SIM card tray and besides the power button.

When bent again, the screen died while the touch sensitivity was nil. The notable aspect here is the fact that for its price point, the smartphone is decent but falls short in JeeryRigEverything’s bend test.  Nonetheless, these should not be points to ponder over in as buyers of a smartphone generally case their handsets adequately and the usage is nearly normal; there would naturally be almost nil throwing and beating (bending as well) the devices. Hence, the Redmi Note 7 is still worth its budget pricing.
