Restaurant discovery app Zomato could be planning to deliver food orders by drone in the future. In what could be an exciting news, Zomato has acquired TechEagle, an Indian drone-delivery startup for an undisclosed amount.
TechEagle is expected to help Zomato create an infrastructure where it can deliver food orders using a drone. It comes right after regulations enabled commercial usage of drones in India starting 1st December 2018.
Commenting on the acquisition, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, had this to say:
“We are currently at the early stage of aerial innovations and are taking baby steps towards building a tomorrow wherein users can expect a drone to deliver the food they ordered online.”
Goyal further said that drone-powered food deliveries are an inevitable part of the future, which is why it is going to be a significant area of investment for Zomato.
Founded in 2015, TechEagle is aimed at custom made drones that are capable of carrying up to 5 kg payloads. TechEagle was founded by IIT Kanpur alumni Vikram Singh Meena while he was studying in college.
