Mark Carney Urges Snap Polls on April 28 Amid Trump’s Annexation Threats & Trade War

Canada will have a snap election on April 28th, as announced by newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney. Voters are likely to be particularly concerned about the trade war between the US and Canada, as well as President Donald Trump 's demands for Canada to become the 51st American state, when the election takes place. It also comes nine days after Carney, a Liberal, was sworn in as Canada's prime minister following Justin Trudeau's resignation. Carney must now face Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, whose party had been leading in national polls since mid-2023, though recent polls suggest the race is now neck-and-neck.
