Mechazilla is SpaceX’s colossal launch tower equipped with massive robotic arms designed to catch rockets midair during landing. This towering mechanical marvel, standing nearly 400 feet tall, plays a pivotal role in Elon Musk’s vision of rapid rocket reusability. During testing, Mechazilla stunned onlookers by successfully catching the gigantic Starship booster, preventing it from crashing into the ocean. Unlike traditional landings using droneships or landing pads, Mechazilla aims to snatch rockets in mid-flight, minimizing turnaround time between launches. This innovation is part of SpaceX's ambition to make interplanetary travel affordable by enabling rockets to launch, land, and relaunch within hours.
